Wood Carving of a Frog (Kaeru) By Nakama Chitoshi
Hand carved wood frog, Signature on bottom reads: Nakama Chitoshi Presented in custom-made original wooden box that is signed by the artist. Frogs are considered symbols of good luck, fertility, and safe travels in Japanese culture.
Notes about the artist: Nakama Chitoshi was Born in 1960 in Okinawa Prefecture. In 1977, he won the silver prize at the 4th Wood Carving Folk Art Exhibition in Oya. In 1985, he started wood carving on his own, and in 1988 won the Excellence Award at the 1st Hokkaido Grand Craft Fair Excellence Contest. In 1990, he set up a workshop in Tsubetsu-town in Hokkaido.
