West African Painted Wood Mask
An expressive West African carved wood mask, possibly of the Dan or Wè peoples of Côte d'Ivoire. The elongated, oval face features a prominent brow, deeply recessed eyes, a slender nose, and a small projecting mouth with inset teeth. The striking surface is decorated in contrasting areas of black, reddish-brown, and ochre pigments, creating a bold, almost abstract composition. The mask displays a beautifully worn surface, with traces of pigment loss and a rich patina developed through age and use. Wear to both the interior and exterior lends the piece an appealing sense of history and authenticity. Mounted on a custom display stand.
