Notes about the artist: Takauchi Shugo (born 1937) opened his kiln in Mashiko in 1968, at the age of 31. He is Japanese ceramist known for his signature bucket-shaped forms, bold colors, and bold interpretations of Mino wares, particularly Oribe, Shino, and ash-glazed pottery. He has exhibited at the Nihon Dento Kogeiten National Traditional Crafts Exhibition, Nihom Togeiten National Ceramics Exhibition as well as the Gendai Nihon Togeiten National Modern Ceramic Exhibition. He has also been awarded the Tochigi Prefectural Cultural Prize in 1998. His works are held in permanent international collections, including the Victoria and Albert Museum.
