Porcelain Vase
with wood base. Paulownia crests and stylized chrysanthemum and symbols of the Japanese Imperial Family decorate this huge Meiji period baluster vase. Signature on bottom reads: Taniguchi sei. Original kiriwood box with original Taniguchi Studio label reads: Kutani kabin (vase). About the Artist: Taniguchi Kinyodo was founded in 1875 by Taniguchi Kichijiro (Kichizo) and employed or provided the outlet for a number of important artists of the era, including Matsumoto Sahei. They created works for the Meiji emperor and produced items for the 1911 Italian Worlds Art Exposition. Although the studio survived the second world war, it closed it's doors in 1957.
