Japanese Two Panel Screen: Venerable Pine in Snow

A striking Japanese two-panel screen depicting an ancient pine lightly dusted with snow, accompanied by bamboo emerging from the lower edge of the composition. Executed in mineral pigments on gold leaf, the gnarled trunk and layered evergreen canopy stand in bold contrast against the luminous ground, celebrating one of Japan's most enduring artistic motifs. The screen is finished with a silk brocade border, black lacquer trim, and dates to circa 1850.
