Japanese Two Panel Screen: Spotted Leopard with Two Tiger Cubs
A mom with two rambunctious cubs playing under bamboo on rivers edge. Beautiful camellia and gold clouds create a relaxing landscape on gold leaf, with silk brocade border. Leopards and tigers are not native to Japan so artists having never actually witnessed these animals, other than drawings and pelts, were under the misconception that spotted leopards were female tigers and striped tigers were males.
