Japanese Two Panel Screen: Kimono
Beautiful 19th century shibori (pin dyed) fabric in kimono form mounted on a simple ground of mulberry paper. Black lacquer trim and beautifully designed bronze mounts. The mounting is c.1920 and the fabric is c.1825. Similar examples shown in Tokeyo National Museum. Shibori, prior to c.1900 was hand dyed. It was outlawed around turn of the century as it was hazardous to the makers health because the process of pins and dye.
