Japanese Six Panel Screen: Scattered Fans
Symbolic Japanese fans are exquisitely and softly painted with mineral pigments on gold leaf, across a gilded six panel screen. Exhibited within the fans, it is noticeable that each one carries sign of nature, prayer, celebration, dance, and storytelling. During the Edo-era, Japanese fans were widely used to display art due to their delicate nature but what may not be noted is that they were also once used by Samurais to send signals and code messages. Red and white are signify colors of luck, while gold attracts wealth. It’s unique and beautiful silk brocade is detailed with flowers, adding value to the joyous energy of each story that is depicted on the fans.
