Japanese Six Panel Screen: Rooster and Hens in a Chrysanthemum Garden

This screen presents a magnificent long-tailed rooster accompanied by several hens in a flowering garden. The birds are surrounded by abundant white chrysanthemums, touches of red blossoms, and bamboo fencing, all set against a luminous gold-leaf ground. The composition is richly rendered in mineral pigments, with the brilliant gold ground providing a radiant backdrop for the birds and abundant vegetation. The screen is finished with a silk-brocade border and black-lacquer trim.
