Mineral pigments and gold leaf, with good veining, on paper. Silk brocade border and wood trim. Seal reads: Taiseiken, seal of Tawaraya Sotatsu, calligraphy on leaf reads: Kagemusha (Shadow Warrior).
Notes about the artist: Tawaraya Sotatsu (1570-1643) was co-founder of the Rinpa School of Japanese painting, together with Koetsu. He is also known for pioneering Tarashikomi, an important painting technique in which paint is dropped on top of a still wet background, to create delicate details.
