Japanese Six Panel Screen: Moon Rising Over the Plains of Musashino
A classic motif in Japanese art. Japanese artists were used to seeing vistas with mountains, valleys, and forests. When artists found the Musashino Plain, the largest area of flat land in Japan, they could see the moon and sun rise and fall on the horizon line for the first time. The Plains of Musashino are also mentioned in very famous works of classic Japanese literature and can be found in all forms of artwork throughout the centuries.
