Showa period (1926 - 1989) painting of a rising sun seen through a woodland scene with a pair of deer. In Japan, deer are thought to be messengers of the gods. Beautiful use of negative space, minimal color and gold. Signature reads: Shunpo. Mineral pigments on gilded silk set in a lacquer frame with gilt bronze hardware.
