Japanese Six Panel Screen: Battle at Uji Bridge

The first battle at Uji was in 1180 and it marked the start of the Heike Wars. The Genji troops crossed the bridge and then destroyed it as a means to prevent the Heike troops from advancing. Excellent painting in mineral pigments and gold leaf with gold dust on mulberry paper with silk brocade border. Screen has been freshly remounted.
