Japanese Edo Period Antique Bronze Box in Hotei Design

Late Edo Period, c. 1850 bronze box in the shape of Hotei, laughing Buddha. Hotei is one of the seven gods of Japan, and is often shown smiling or laughing. He is the patron of children which is maybe why he is depicted with two children climbing on him. Silver work on the cover, box is signed on the cover on the lower right of Hotei's robes, reads: Yoshi Aki. Comes with custom made nesting storage box.
