Japanese 18th Century Scroll of Shogun Ashikaga Takauji
Edo Period (1603 - 1868) painting of Ashikaga Takauji, the first Shogun of the Muromachi period (1333-1573). Signature on the scroll reads: Tsunenobu. Most likely a tribute to Kano Tsunenobu (1636 - 1713), one of the leaders of the Kano school of painting. Wonderfully intricated details of the armor and fabrics. Comes in wooden storage box which is signed by the artist: Totsusai. Mineral pigments on silk with silk brocade mounting. Painting size: 42" h x 19" w.
