Important Japanese Antique Bronze Flower Vase (Hana Ire)
Comes with signed original storage box, shifuku (silk jacket), and document by previous owners and the artist. Signed on its heel: Nakagawa Joeki. Metal makers, the Nakagawa family was one of the designated tea ceremony makers for the Sen family. The first generation Shoeki (1559-1622) started making tea ceremony utensils for Sen Rikyu. (Till then, Shoeki/ Nakagawa family was making castings of armour) Later, Shoeki called himself Joeki and made metal ceremony utensils including mizusashi (water carafe, water ladle, tea kettle etc). Box writing by Sosai (Hakogaki).
