African Carved Wood Figure – Senufo Female Figure

A striking, early 20th-century, African carved wood figure, of a female figure of Senufo type from Côte d’Ivoire. The female is shown standing with flexed legs and raised arms, distinguished by an elaborate three-lobed coiffure with long braided side locks. Finely incised scarification and geometric decoration articulate the face, breasts, abdomen, and limbs, the surface retaining a deep, dark-brown patina. The figure displays richly aged surfaces and strong, highly stylized sculptural forms.

Provenance: Collection of Percival Paul Steinhart III.
