Abstract Sculpture of a Reclining Woman

This abstract sculpture is of a reclining woman with her head and knees up was made by Robert Hughes (1915-2004). Born in Providence, Rhode Island and later residing in Berlin, New Hampshire, Hughes became well known as a teacher for 43 years in the Berlin school system, as well as a graphic designer and artist. Hughes' work has been compared to the work of Henry Moore and William Zorach. The sculpture is carved from wood, stained and finished. Minor losses and imperfections and great patina.
