Early Kamakura Period Japanese Shinzo Sculpture
Shinzo is a representational figure of a god or spirit in the Shinto religion (normally devoid of human figures). This sculpture was carved from a single piece of hinoki wood, a process that is called ichiboku zukuri. Late Heian (794 - 1185)/ early Kamakura (1185 - 1333) period sculpture.
