Japanese Six Panel Screen: Fall Into Winter Landscape
Very unusual and dramatic, Kano School painting. Fall into Winter (from right to left) subject matter. When the final leaves of the season kiss the earth and the first snowfall tucks them away for the Winter. The story in this painting can be appreciated as a beautiful sign of change. The salmon springs up from the body of water catching flies, with bluey-hues running through the panels and as it becomes feathered by raised gold leaf design. Beautiful white and pink flowers creating a dream-like picture. Truly expressing woodland beauty, as mourning doves drift within the imagery, and the water wheel compliments the message of a season’s rotation and transformation while it moves the water harmoniously to the rhythm of the current. Mineral pigments with gold on mulberry paper and a silk brocade border.
