Japanese Six Panel Screen: Bridge over Fan-Strewn River
Depicting a festival game in Kyoto on River Kamo which started in the 16th century. Poems were written on fans and sent down the river. Fans would float on the top of the river until caught by people downstream who would then add verses to the poems. Kano School painting of mineral pigments on gold leaf and mulberry paper, with silk brocade border.
