Set of Five Japanese Bizen Fish-Shaped Dishes

An unusual set of five Japanese ceramic dishes modeled in the form of flatfish, each with raised eyes, delicately incised fins, and a richly mottled iron-brown glaze. The shallow, asymmetrical forms capture the distinctive shape of the fish with a charming, slightly whimsical character. Each bears an impressed maker’s mark on the underside. Accompanied by a wooden storage box with Japanese calligraphy.
