Pair of Japanese Six Panel Screens: Hidden Mountain Retreat Above the Clouds

Ink on gilded silk with black lacquer trim. Chinese Poem on top left of Screen A is by Zhang Wenguang. Poem reads: The morning brings white clouds, and at dusk more holy white clouds. Artist Signature on screen reads: Yano Kyoson (1891-1965), dated Taisho 4 (1916). Notes on the artist: Yano Kyoson (1891-1965) was born in Ehime prefecture, on the Island of Shikoku, and studied under Nakamatsu Shunyo. He exhibited consistently with the Nihon Nanga-in, of which he was a founding member. He also was consistently presented at the Bunten and Teiten National Exhibition, where he served as a Juror, and later at the Nitten. His work is held in the collection of the National Museum of Modern Art Tokyo, as well as any number of important private collections. Measurements listed are for each screen.
