16th Century Italian Cassone Trunk
Very fine, first half of 16th century, Italian cassone (nuptial chest). Made of carved and gilded walnut. Acanthus volute scrolls punctuate the sides of the cassone. The front panel is defined by a rectangular band of foliate carving, enclosing two half moon petal shapes which flank an oval form with floral sprays centering an armorial bearing. Provenance: Orselli Collection, Florence.
