Bronze Japanese Dog Sculpture (Possibly Akita)
Beautifully sculpted with a modern feeling. Signature on the bottom reads: Saegusa Soutarou. With original signed box. Notes about the artist: Saegusa Soutarou born in 1911 in Kagawa prefecture. He became a recognized sculptor in his early age and participated in numerous prestigious shows where he won a number of awards. His works are collected by museums and also displayed as monuments in major cities of Japan. A big enthusiast of art, Saegusa is known for a variety of themes and postures reflecting traditional japanese culture with addition of some abstract elements. His works are highly revered for its artistic beauty. After his retirement from a post of professor in Nagoya University of Arts, he created numerous large scale bronze monuments and sculptures. Even in his ninties he continued.
